2018, video installation

Each page of the Syrian passport is adorned with monochrome images of historically significant or modern architectural monuments. This carefully engineered collection is an effort to establish a collective, subtly pro-regime identity for Syrian citizens.

The artist has isolated these monuments, projecting them in the same uncanny aesthetics that they present on the page. Their new dematerialized form mirrors their actual inaccessibility due to political exile, geographical barriers and/or outright destruction. This installation of images which continuously disappear and re-appear invites the viewer into an act of intangible sightseeing.
