Voodoo - Untitled Anonymous Monument

2011, mixed media installation, 369x266 cm

Voodoo was created in parallel to the onset of the Arab Spring. At the time, targeting the imagery of a tyrant became nearly as dangerous as attacking the dictator himself. This created a novel, cyclical dynamic between the production, dissemination, and destruction of images and icons.

The work is a tribute to all those who destroyed images or statues of an oppressor, and thus had to hide their identities or faced prosecution for doing so.
